Lindsay Hoisington - Creative Professional
"Clothing makes a statement.
Costumes tell a story."
-Mason Cooley

I have always wanted to do storytelling as a career. I remember putting on one woman shows, creating sets out of cardboard, costumes out of bedsheets, and songs from tunes on the radio. The first job I wanted was to be a ballerina/singer/chef/painter who acted onstage because I couldn't pick one creative outlet to pursue as a way to communicate my passion with others. Now, as I navigate the Boston theatre scene, I am thrilled to be involved in design, construction, and management of costumes.
I graduated in May 2021, a year early with a Bachelor of Science in Theatre arts. Throughout my time I got the opportunity to explore all aspects of design, production, as well as performance. Through my roles in wardrobe, hair & makeup, and stage management, I spent many hours in the costume shop falling in love with it more and more.
Something about costuming feels so intimate, personal, and nuanced, as it combines color, texture, structure, and character into every garment. I hope to bring compassion, a theatrical background, and truth into everything I create. I am always eager to learn and meet new people, whether they are the actors, designers, crew, or characters I am designing for. My background in all design and production elements help me to see costumes from a holistic perspective.
Currently, I am based in Boston, MA working in local theaters doing full-time freelance. I have worked in Wardrobe Management and Costuming with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, Wheelock Family Theatre, and Actors' Shakespeare Project. My designs have been seen at Merrimack College, Company Theatre, and Virginia Children's Theatre. I am in the business of creativity, wonder, compassion, inclusivity, and most importantly: people.
